Area 1 ABWM Board of Managers September 11, 2007 FBC Sterling
The meeting was called to order by President Lois Appleman. There were 21 ladies in attendance. (sign in sheet in secretary’s notebook)Devotions were given by Chair of Personal Development, Sue Wallick, “The Woman with the Bent Back.”Each person was asked to introduce themselves. Host was Phyllis Cannon, new ABW President of FBC Sterling. The ladies graciously served breakfast muffins and delicious lunch deserts.
Minutes of March 30, 2007 board meeting were approved.
Reports: (written reports in secretary’s notebook)
Lois – president: New: leave out the 12 sheets of construction paper and the toothpaste when doing Gifts of the Heart Kits.
Sharon – secretary: Review of spring meetings. Concern of postage cost sending information to churches who have never participated in area meetings. (Hilda responded we have never gone over budget for postage.) First draft 2007-2008 directories passed out for corrections. Take Princeton out of directory but leave on mailing list. Take Blackberry Creek off
Hilda – treasurer/World Mission Support/ member-at-large: new budget accepted. Fall mission ‘expo’ in three locations: Cordova 33 in attendance, Dixon 68, and Marengo 33. Offering for WORMS project $460. Offering for Russian ministry $300. Note: Some of the ladies did not know about these mission meetings. Next time we will include Mission Expo flyers with ABW mailings.
Marlene – White Cross: Sent out 23 requests. Many churches have excuses for not participating. Overseas Area 1 request is $5,500. Add to those who will do White Cross: Morgan Park, Batavia, Immanuel of Elgin. At meeting time only 4 had returned their acceptance slips. (East Moline will share their large request with Moline; none mailed to Moline)
Sue - Personal Development: Nothing to report at this time.
Bonnie - Mission and Service: New address for Kristy Engel, it will be in the new directories. Check address for Matt and Lori Mann, it may have changed. Take Kristina Gutierrez off. Those who had Kris for SIM will now have Scott and Tan Coats. Suggestion: that Bonnie send a note to each church to reaffirm their 2 SIM. Love Gift, nothing to report.
Sharon – OASIS: 2008 date is March 28-29. Rev. Molly Dunn will be our 2008 facilitator. Ruth is checking with Angela Jeffries for music for 2008 OASIS. We are about $300 in the red for each OASIS. Suggestion: We could do OASIS at Blackhawk Camp. Would be much less expensive; $350 per day. Needs to be done in September or May; suggested dates September 11-12, 2009. (This board meeting could be held at the same time.) Suggested facilitator for 2009 is Rachel Cocar.
Special Project: Two year, “Break the Chains” Ruth has lots of materials. Suggested books: Not for Sale by David Batstone, Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers, and The Natashas by Victor Malarek. We will use the DVD about Annie Dieselberg from Not for Sale for Fall Gathering.
Lois Wan – Program: Fall Gathering will be at FBC of Elgin on October 27, 2007. Concert will feature two Korean girls, maybe 3: piano, violin, and singer. Lunch will be $5: chicken or ham casserole, tossed salad, jello, rolls, cake. Kathy Baillargeon from Milwaukee Christian Center, our SIM, will be the speaker. She will be given $75 plus mileage. The concert ladies will be given $25 each. Elgin will do the bulletins. Sharon will provide the SACKS. Offering will be ½ and ½ for general fund and special project. Love Gift boxes will be on lunch table. Sue will pass around the Student Aid Can. Suggestion: Contact Wendy Barnhart, missionary in residence at Judson, soon for Spring Spiritual Feasts.
GRR Convention at Decatur, women’s breakfast is October 7, 2007. Lois had flyers for the breakfast.
Audrey Hexdall told about the young man, Daniel Baltz, who is spending a year at Bluefields, Nicaragua, before going on to college. Donations, funds for him appreciated.
Area 1 Annual Meeting is February 29 – March 1, 2008, at FBC Elgin. “Leap into Faith.” Dr. Michael Quicke will be the keynote speaker. Dr. Jerry Cain will be the youth speaker.
GRR Region Convention will be at FBC Moline, October 4-6, 2008. Speaker will be Melinda Baits, missionary to Costa Rica.

White Cross, Marlene Andoe – Mickey Potts is continuing this year and will give materials to Marlene when 2007 reports are in. Discussed urgent request for Gifts of the Heart School Kits. Cheryl got the lists off internet and passed them out to the group.
Scholarship information and applications are on line. Deadline April 1st.
Mission and Service, Bonnie Wind – Scott and Tan Coats added to our SIM. Report submitted. Bonnie is working on displays for upcoming events. She reported on Mission Conference in Springfield and discussed briefly improvements at Murrow Indian Children’s Home in Muskogee, OK.
Program -Rhonda Salis (report given by Marlene) She has contacted Macy Smith and Mary Ann Hutchinson for Spring Spiritual Feasts. Mt. Carroll needs a song leader. Ruth Peterson will do this and also contact Mary Ann Hutchison with suggestions of songs for their pianist.
World Mission Support-Hilda Smith She and Jack have made two trips to Murrow Indian Children’s Home. Discussed the WORMS project in Nicaragua being done by Dr. Laura Parajon. Ruth passed around information.
OASIS we expected 39 but ended up with only 33. Thelma Palmer is in the hospital and Celeste Matheson took her place.
Region Board Meeting – Area 1 is to do table blessing for Region ABW Conference. It was decided we will use the same trifolds we used several years ago. Sharon still has the patterns and can make copies.

National Women’s Conference at Green Lake is July 21-27, 2007. We discussed having
a drawing at OASIS for first timers who would like a scholarship to attend
National Conference. No names were submitted.
Fall Gathering will be October 27, 2007 at FBC Elgin We will again collect supplies for
Baptist Student Center in DeKalb. and introduce Rene Gorbold. Cheryl suggested
we bring items for the Food Pantry at Northern Seminary. Suggested speaker
Kathy B, at Milwaukee Christian Center. Lois Wan suggested a concert by Korean
Girls. They will need to decide on lunch menu and price. Other suggestions for
Speakers: Chuck DeRolf, Mark Thompson, Northern speaker on Spiritual
Formation
