The meeting was called to order at 10:10 a.m. by President Lottie Nast.  Prayer concerns were shared, and Lottie led in prayer.  Joan Leitzen gave devotions beginning with this year’s program theme “Come to the Edge.” She challenged each of us to “Go to the Edge and help create” and closed with prayer. She passed out the theme scriptures and also a prayer request from Bill Clemmer.  The minutes of the March 31st board meeting were approved as printed.  Minutes from the Spring Rally were also distributed.  Carol Rankin gave the treasurer’s report which showed a balance in the checking account of $2,031.32.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT:  Joan Leitzen reported that she has sent reports to Area III Personal Development coordinators twice this summer. She is working on the Fall Rallies with Verna Treasure, Karen Dainty and the program committee, and also has begun planning for the Spring Rally.

CHURCH AND COMMUNITY: Anita Greenwell encouraged churches to reach out in their communities and in her page for the Rally packet asks for them to share any ideas with her that she can pass on to others.

MISSION & SERVICE MINISTRIES:  Verna Treasure shared the prayer request from Bill Clemmer about the unknown disease in his district of the Congo.  Verna is preparing to go on a mission trip to Nicaragua which was planned before Hurricane Felix hit that country. She asked for prayer support for their mission team as well as financial help with their goal to purchase 7 ham radios.   Medical missionaries David and Laura Parajon of AMOS have been given the responsibility of relief efforts in three isolated villages in northeastern Nicaragua, and the radios are needed so they can communicated with relief workers in the fields.

WHITE CROSS:  Doris Kaisner reported that 28 churches are doing White Cross this year.  One of these is only doing roller bandages. She sent requests to 26 churches for money for the Congo.  13 have accepted, 1 declined and 1 accepted 50% of their request.  Requests for Murrow Children’s Home were sent to 27 churches, and 18 have accepted.

PROJECT PROMOTION AND STUDENT AID: Joyce Cannon has information on the Region Project “Break the Chains” which has a goal of $15,000 this year.  This will be a two year project with a goal of another $15,000 next year.  The Area Project is for camps.  She has not received information on specific needs at either camp, but the goal will be $1000 for Lake Springfield Camp and $1000 for Blackhawk Camp.  She reported that Area III has one Student Aid recipient, Brian Willmert from Lincoln.

LOVE GIFT: Ruth Olsen thanked the board for paying ½ of her conference fee.  She was able to get the new Love Gift booklet at Conference and felt it has a lot of good information.  She encouraged us to keep promoting Love Gift in our churches.  A collection of bills with either a L or G was taken.  $23 was received.

COMMUNICATIONS: Rose Marie Dunn, the Region Communications Associate made corrections to the latest GRR AB Women’s Ministries Directory.  Joyce Topping asked that all information for the Rally Packets be turned in by Friday, Sept. 14.  The Area Directory will be ready to be included in the Rally Packets.

Lottie Nast made committee assignments and the group broke for committee work and then lunch.

Following lunch, Lottie thanked Ruth Olsen and Joyce Topping for providing refreshments. Verna Treasure volunteered to bring the breakfast treats and Doris Kaisner the lunch treats for the next board meeting on March 29.  Other dates to remember are:

 COMMITTEE REPORTS:

PROGRAM COMMITTEE: Plans are in place for the two Fall Rallies.  Karen Dainty and Joan Leitzen are leading them.  The Spring Rally will focus on the program priority of Children and Poverty.  It was suggested to include a line on the Rally evaluation sheets asking for volunteers to host future rallies.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE:  There are three officers whose terms end in Spring 2008.  They are President, Coordinator of Personal Development, and Associate for White Cross.  The committee has names to present for two of these offices, and they are working on the presidency.

FINANCE COMMITTEE:   Doris Kaisner reported for Carol Rankin that there is between $1100 and $1200 available for use in the checking account.  She moved that Area III give $200 to GRR AB Women’s Ministries.  Joan Leitzen seconded the motion.  Motion passed.

PRESIDENT:  Lottie reported on the Region Board Meeting.  She talked about the new two year theme and also the two year regional project.  The project “Break the Chains” is a very worthy project, and goes along with one of our program priorities “Human Trafficking” Our region AB Women’s Ministries board is still in need of operating funds.

Dates decided on for 2008 are:  Sept 6, Area III AB Women’s Ministries Board Meeting; Sept 20, West Fall Rally, and Sept. 27 East Fall Rally.  The meeting was adjourned with prayer by Lottie at 1:40 p.m.

Area III GRR Women’s Ministries    Board Meeting – East Peoria

March 31, 2007

Present: Karen Dainty, Anita Greenwell, Martha Howard, Doris Kaisner, Vicky Keever, Lottie Nast, Ruth Olsen, Becky (Albin) Peace, Joyce Topping.

The meeting was called to order at 10:10 A.M. by President Lottie Nast.  Prayer concerns were shared, and Lottie Nast led in prayer. The minutes of the September 9, 2006  meeting were approved as printed..  The treasurer’s report shows that there is $1,082.63 in the checking account after all current disbursements were made.  The report was filed for audit.

CHURCH AND COMMUNTITY:  Anita Greenwell encouraged churches to be aware of needs in their community and to help in any way they can.

MISSION AND SERVICE:  Karen Dainty reported on prayer requests she had received concerning missions.  The situation in Burma is difficult at this time, and the Nzungas in Haiti have asked for prayers because of the bad weather and the hardships it is causing the Haitians.  She shared some of the plans for the GRR AB Women’s conference in June.  The missionary speaker will be Bill Clemmer from the Congo.  Items will be collected for him to take back with him as well as for Murrow Children’s Home in Oklahoma.  AB Girls will be gathering at the same time and place as the women.  Everyone was asked to encourage girls to attend.

WHITE CROSS:  Doris Kaisner reported that White Cross quotas were mailed to 30 of our 35 Area churches.  Two of the thirty did not respond and several called back to tell her that they could not fill the quota they were given.  These quota items were then given to other churches.  This means that 28 of our area churches are working on White Cross this year and there is the potential that five additional churches might help next year.  Reports are due to Doris by April 30th.  To date, eight churches have completed their quotas and returned reports to her.  White Cross will accept as many roller bandages as churches send, so you can roll and send more than is requested.

PROJECT PROMOTION AND STUDENT AID:  Vicky Keever reported that the GRR is closing Lake Benton Camp and putting it up for sale.  The project money that is being collected for them will still be sent to them to use toward costs associated with closing the camp and for scholarships for campers to attend our other camps.  There were no candidates yet for Student Aid this year.

LOVE GIFT: Ruth Olsen had exciting news for Area III.  We were the only area in the Region to increase our Love Gift giving in 2006.  Our contribution to Love Gift increased by $345.03, but the total given in the Region was down by $5,532.86.  The total given in 2006 by the GRR was $43,085.44.  Love Gift celebrated its 75th year in 2006.  Ruth shared about ways women saving dollars with a “L” or “G” on them have increased their giving.

SECRETARY/COMMUNICATIONS:  Corrections to the current directory were made by Joyce Topping.  She also asked for permission to list officer’s e-mail addresses on the AB Women’s Ministries web site.

PRESIDENT:  Lottie Nast reported on the GRR Women’s Ministries meeting.  The deficit in the treasury has been overcome.  The AB Women’s Ministries breakfast at the Convention in October will be held at the First Baptist Church in Decatur and hosted by Marcia Wimmer of Area II.  National AB Women’s Ministries is having financial trouble and they are encouraging women to become “Vital Partners”, which is pledging and giving whatever amount one can give.  She mentioned that Campbell Soup has changed which part of the label we are to save.  It is the UPC code and the small picture beside it instead of the front.  Also, Church World Service especially needs school kits, and can always use baby kits and health kits.  Area III will be responsible for Dining Room help at the June Conference at Lake Williamson.  There will be no meal on Friday.  Lottie and Martha Howard will help on Saturday, and the AB Girls will be responsible for Sunday breakfast.  She asked for a response from board members about the value of “The Marks of An Active AB Women’s Ministries Group.”  Those present agreed that they thought it was a good idea and it gave the local church goals to work on through the year.  She shared that John Grisham reported the region is in financial trouble also.  There is a program called “GRReat Friends” for persons wishing to give directly to the region or contribute through their church.  She also mentioned a project called “WORMS” that missionaries in Nicaragua are working with.  They can immunize children for 2c a time, twice a year to eradicate intestinal worms.

The group broke for Committee work and then lunch.

 COMMITTEE REPORTS

PROGRAM COMMITTEE:  Verna Treasure was unable to attend but she e-mailed a copy of the program for the spring rally.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE:  Joyce Topping reported they are still looking for a treasurer.  The other officers to be nominated at the Spring Rally are: Associate for Project Promotion and Student Aid – Joyce Cannon; Coordinator of Personal Development – Joan Leitzen; and Coordinator of Mission & Service – Verna Treasure.

PRESIDENT:  Lottie Nast reported on the GRR Women’s Ministries meeting.  Ruth Peterson, our GRR Women’s Ministries President, is asking for prayer as that board works on finding a “networking person” and how that person would relate to all the different ministries of women.  The GRR Women’s Ministries also has a $3500 deficit.  They are asking each women’s group to consider sending an extra $15- $30 in for Region Support (dues) this year. More subscriptions to “Vital Woman” magazine are needed in order to keep it going.  We also were encouraged to use e-mail as we communicate with each other and our churches. The group broke for committee work and then lunch.

After lunch the group reconvened and the committees reported back to the group.  The Program Committee asked for suggestions on an honorarium for the Rally Speaker.  Doris Kaisner moved that Bethany Strunk be given $50 for each Rally.  Rose Marie Dunn seconded the motion.  Motion passed. Doris Kaisner will drive Bethany to Bethel Baptist in Colchester, and Joyce Topping will provide her ride to Ridgeview Baptist in Danville.  The Nominating Committee will be seeking women to fill the positions of Treasurer, Coordinator of Personal Development (1 year), and Associate for Project Promotion and Student Aid.  The Finance Committee recommended sending $200 to help the GRR Women’s Ministries with their deficit.  Becky Albin, Finance Committee Chair, moved to send $200 to the GRR Women’s Ministries. Needing no second, the motion passed.

There was discussion about the number of Rallies held in the Fall, but nothing definite was decided.  Attendance was encouraged at the Women’s Breakfast, October 8, held in conjunction with the Region Convention.  Kristina Gutierrez will be the speaker.  Girls (grades 6 – 12) are encouraged to be a part of the AB Girls Gathering which is held at the same time as the Women’s Conference at Lake Williamson in June.
