Congratulations to Jessica Whitlock who is getting married on Saturday, June 10, 2008, to Daniel Myers. Jessica worked at Blackhawk Baptist Camp for several years as lifeguard and as Assistant Manager.
Continue to pray for Barb Conrod as she remains in serious condition in the Intensive Care Unit after a heart attack on Monday evening. There have been only small changes in her condition and she is on life support. While visiting at the hospital with the Conrod family. I got to meet and talk with Austin Conrod, Barb and Don’s sixth grade grandson. Austin told me he is excitedly looking forward to camp at Blackhawk because it is such a fun time. We talked about the great counselors and some of his favorite staff like Jamie, Jessica and Matt. He asked if they would all be back and I assured him that would. Hurry and get you registrations in to get the early bird discount.
Pray that the military government of Myanmar will allow the humanitarian workers to be brought into the country after the devastating cyclone. John and Ruth Peterson serve on the Board of Friends of Burma and can help you direct money to that organization for relief. Contact John or Ruth at FBC, Moline for more information.
Jason Hladik will be installed as Pastor of FBC, Plano on June 22 at 2 PM. Area 1 Churches are invited to attend.
Congratulations to James Huffstutler who received his Eagle Scout Award on April 27th. James completed an awesome project at Blackhawk Camp which included building a new fire circle and the benches for the circle. It is a great addition to the camp and allows campfire to be away from the cabins to keep the smoke out of the sleeping areas.
Next Sunday, May 18, we are holding a Open House for Jessica’s College Graduation. We hope you can drop by sometime between 3 to 7 PM. Jessica will receive her Bachelor of Architecture Degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology, the beautiful tree-filled campus in south Chicago.

Congratulations to Sharon Farral, oops, Reverend Sharon Farral, who was ordained on Sunday, April 27th by FBC, East Moline. It was a historic moment for the 95 year old church as this was the first time to ordain a woman. It was an inspiring service with guest ministers Dr. Ruth Peterson, Rev. Clark Luce and Rev. Ron Miles participating as well as the pastor of the church Rev. Brian Fischer. Area 1 churches represented were: East Moline, Moline, Antioch, Dixon, Elgin, Batavia, DeKalb, Alpha, Cordova, Creekwood, and Galesburg from Area 3. Sharon is the Associate Pastor of Senior Care at FBC, East Moline.
Sarah Day of the Ministers and Missionary Benefit Board will present a Church Financial Seminar on June 19, Thursday evening 6:30 PM at the FBC, Davenport, IL in the Quad Cities. All are invited to attend. Please pre-register with the church at 563-323-2765.
First Baptist Church of East Moline, IL will celebrate 95 years on Sunday June 8th. Dr. Dwight Stinnett, GRR Executive Minister, will bring the message at the morning worship service. Then at Noon we will join in a catered meal in the fellowship hall. The cost of the catered meal will be $11.00 and reservations must be turned in by Monday June 2nd to the church office 309-755-2409.
Hey youth! The bowl-a thon is May 10 in DeKalb. The cost is only $6.00 which gets you two games of bowling, free shoe rental and the opportunity to see your friends from Area 1. We are asking students to secure pledges for the Colorado trip to the National Baptist Youth Gathering which occurs ONLY EVERY FOUR YEARS! We still have about 20 seats on the bus to Estes Park. Maybe you have youth who were thinking about going. It is not too late to register. The cost is $550.00 and includes your room, board and bus transportation to the YMCA of the Rockies, Estes Park Colorado. It is camp time. Registrations are coming in slowly. Get signed up now and take advantage of the early bird price. Check out the camp website http://www.blackhawkgrr.org/ We have a great staff this year including students from: Cordova, Minonk, Aurora, Marseilles, Sterling, Morrison and DeKalb.
