Testimony from Camp Director of 3rd and 4th Grades Camp - Larry Crane

I just returned from church camp this past week. The first part of the week, we had fifty 3rd and 4th graders. What a joy it was along with fourteen staff from Cherry Hills to share the gospel with these children.  As I reflect on the week, I see God's hands guiding the campers and the results of your prayers for myself and the staff.  When I asked by a parent recently why a child should attend church camp. I said, “Because God can accomplish amazing things when we dedicate the time to him. Let me illustrate: as we were heading towards the vesper area for our commitment service, I asked, “How many of you have been baptized since camp last year? I choked back the tears as I counted 18 hands. I asked them to walk the rest of the way in silence, and I reflected on the power that camp played in key decisions in my life. As I followed the glow in the dark footprints to the cross by the lake, my prayer was that the decisions made this evening would be life altering and be the first steps in a lifetime of service to God. I thought these are 9 and 10 year olds what difference can it make? I was reminded of a survey by George Barna that most adult Christians made their decisions before the age of 11.  We shared the call and then prayed. Counselors stayed to talk to several children. When we got to the campfire, I asked they would remember about camp. One energetic young man from Cherry Hills Baptist Church replied, "Inviting Jesus into my Heart tonight."  As I sit here in my office reviewing commitments that children made that week, I am indeed grateful to God for changing lives. Twenty campers invited Jesus into their lives that night, thirteen want to be baptized, and another seven want to be missionaries or pastors. Many also indicated they want to learn more about Jesus and read their Bible more.

"The purpose of GRR camping is to bring children, youth and adults a step closer to Christ"
