Youth Trip to Mississippi
The Youth Group from The Christ Life Church, Woodstock, IL returned from a nine day mission trip in July to Waveland, Mississippi different than when they left.
Unfortunately, many of the hurricane Katrina victims of Waveland, MS, were without flood insurance and have no money to rebuild their homes. The FEMA trailers were to only house the residents for four months until they could rebuild their homes.
The Youth Group did cleanup and rebuilding projects and adopted a ten member family living in one small FEMA trailer.
Mark Hayes, a renowned composer and arranger of sacred and contemporary Christian music will lead a Music of Faith Festival in the Quad Cities October 13-14, 2007. A seminar on “Finding and Embracing Your Worship Voice” will be held on Saturday at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Davenport.
On Sunday, Marc Hayes will conduct a 300 voice community choir in a concert of his original compositions and arrangements in the Centennial Hall at Augustana College. First Baptist Church of Moline, IL is one of the host churches. Contact the church for more information.
Antioch Baptist Church, Reynolds, IL, in partnership with Hamlet-Perryton Presbyterian Church hosted Group Publishing's "Avalanche Ranch" Vacation Bible School June 37, 2007. We had 18-20 children.
The mission project this year was to collect money and make contributions to the Nicaragua Worm Project. In just 5 days, the kids collected $255.77 for the project.
They then issued a challenge to both churches to match or surpass their giving. Antioch Baptist collected an additional $91.16, and Hamlet Presbyterian collected an additional $53.61 for a grand total donation of $400.54! The Nicaragua Worm Project helps to immunize children in Nicaragua against worm infestation. For a donation of only 2 cents, children can be immunized for a six-month period of time. With the money donated from the two churches, we will be able to help 20,027 kids!
