American Baptist Churches USA exists as a denomination to offer its 5,800 churches a sense of family and to provide resources to support them in life-changing ministries undertaken in the name of Jesus Christ. The local church is the fundamental unit of mission within denominational life, and our priority. American Baptist leaders have noted that our priority, "is to affirm, support and challenge congregations as they live out their mission."
ABC Great Rivers Region is one of 35 convenanting partners in ministry and mission who make up what together are called the American Baptist Churches USA. Each of these partners (like each church) is self-contained, autonomous, but interdependent for the purpose of providing resources to local churches to live out the mandates of Christ (Matthew 28:20; Acts 1:8)
Organizational structure in every organization needs to serve the needs of those for whom the organization exists. Therefore, from time to time, American Baptist leaders have gathered to ask what needs to happen for the overall structure of the ABCUSA to better serve those it was created by and for: the local churches.
